Stop point - Nemeskolta

Nemeskolta is an Árpád-era settlement. The first mention dates back to 1280. The village, inhabited by small nobles, is the origin of the Koltai Vidos family, who played a significant role in the history of Vas county. Their classicist mansion was built in the early 1800s.
The mansion was converted into a castle in the 1860s. The last owner was Mária Németh, a celebrated opera singer who lived between the two world wars. In 1935 the feature film "Hello Budapest" was shot here.
The first mention of the medieval church of the village, dedicated to St. Martin, can be found in a document from 1342. The small church was destroyed during the Turkish raids in the mid-1600s.
The present church, built in the romantic style in the centre of the village, was designed by Miklós Ybl in 1865. Its altarpiece depicts the glorified Bishop Saint Martin.
