Point of interest - Rusovce - St Mary Magdalene Roman Catholic Church

The construction of the present Baroque-style single-nave parish church is associated with the Zichy family. The coat of arms above the main entrance doorway, bearing the inscription ZICHI AMADE, dates from 1668 and bears witness to the date of construction. The top of the timpanon is decorated with a statue of St Mary Magdalene. The crypt of the church served as the tomb of the Zichy family until the beginning of the 20th century.

The early Baroque interior, consisting of the main altar, two side altars and the pulpit, dates from the second half of the 17th century and is fully preserved. The high altar is dedicated to Mary Magdalene. The central picture of Mary Magdalene kneeling and the picture of the superstructure (Immaculata) date from 1893, by J. Krikleis. The altar on the right was dedicated to St. Petersburg. From the point of view of art history, the church pulpit is unique. The parapet of the 6-sided platform is divided into 6 fields by the side rails. Each field is decorated with pictures painted on wood, floral motifs, the four evangelists and biblical scenes. The baptismal font, with a conical base and rosette shape, dates from the 17th century, with a younger neoclassical wooden cover and a scene of Christ's baptism. The preserved organ from the 19th century is in the choir of the church, built in 1857 by organ builder Mihály Szlezák. In front of the church entrance, a statue of St. Anthony with a little Jesus in his arms from 1719 stands on a tall, round stone column.
