Via Divide Caritatem

Martin, a young Roman soldier with a promising "career" ahead of him, meets a beggar at the city gates of Amiens. It is the defining moment of his life.
Wrapped in his thick, warm, red winter cloak, from the height of his military position, he catches sight of and notices the wretched, suffering man. He pities and helps him, folding his cloak in half and wrapping him in it.
His shared cloak is a clear sign of his new path, a path of caring for the needy, of love in action.
It was not the sword that cut the cloak in two, but the cross, the power of love that moved Martin to action.
He realises: that he shared his cloak with Jesus; he understands: "What you do for one of the least of these, you do for Me".
For 1700 years, this action has become an everlasting symbol, proclaiming love in the spirit of the Gospel, in action, showing the way, setting an example, and calling us to follow.

In Europe, hundreds of villages are named after Saint Martin, and thousands of churches have been consecrated in his honour. Countries, dioceses, parishes, charitable organisations, hospitals, kindergartens, schools, choirs and various NGOs have taken his name.
Martin was born in 316 in the former Savaria, in what is now Szombathely, and travelled all over Europe, was elected Bishop of Tours in France, where he was buried on 11 November 397.
His birth and death places are linked by the Via Sancti Martini, the European Cultural Route of Saint Martin.

In connection with this, the construction of the SAINT MARTON'S ROUTE IN BARANYA - VIA DIVIDENDAE CARITATIS began in 2010, linking the churches and villages dedicated to Saint Martin in the county with a 500-kilometre route rich in natural beauty, architecture, art, folklore, contemporary artists and works of art, and interspersed with different nationalities, which can be used on foot or by bicycle.
