Batthyány Castle was built between 1858-1862 in the early historicist style. Dr. László Batthyány-Strattmann, a doctor for the poor, was born here on 2 October 1870. Education has been provided in his birthplace since 1949. A memorial plaque in honour of the eponym was unveiled here in 1988. In 1990, on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the birth of the "doctor of the poor", the institution took the name of the famous native of the house: from then on, the building is officially known as Dr. László Batthyány-Strattmann Dr. Batthyány Primary School.
Batthyány Chapel in Dunakiliti
In 1873 a severe cholera epidemic broke out in the village. Dr. László Batthyány-Strattmann's mother vowed that if they could escape the deadly disease, she would have a chapel built in honour of the Virgin Mary. So she did. Inscription on the pedestal of the statue of the Virgin Mary in the chapel:
"Mary, help me". "Gratitude, remembrance. Erected in honour of the Virgin Mary, healer of the sick. It was erected by Countess Ludovika Batthyány, born József József Batthyány, for the fortunate cessation of the cholera epidemic in 1873, following the noble example of the happy mother."
