Point of interset - Kunsziget - Church of St. Lawrence

The first church of Kunsziget was built by Lőrinc Szécsényi around the 1670s. The temple was consecrated in honour of St. Lőrinc the Martyr by the son of the builder, Pál Szécsényi, Grand Bishop of Győr, around 1677.

The first church in the village was built by Lőrinc Széchényi and consecrated by his son, Grand Primate Paul (later Bishop and later Archbishop of Kalocsa) around 1677. The present church was built in 1843-44, in late classicist style, under the direction of György Szinger. The old church has 20 pews and a chalice from 1718 with the inscription GVNT. SIGHET.

The altarpiece depicts the martyrdom of Saint Lawrence. The interior of the church is painted in marble. The ceiling frescoes were painted by Antal Borsa in 1957. A marble plaque at the cross in front of the church commemorates the Benedictine Father Teodos Jáki, who for decades led the traditional Easter procession of the "Jesus Quest" in Kunsziget, which is also considered a megalithic ritual.
