Via Sancti Martin

Varasdteplic was already known as a spa in Roman times, then called Aquae lasae. Its medicinal waters were known and used during the Middle Ages. The village is mentioned as Toplissa in the 12th century and the church there as Sancti Martini de Toplica nostra in 1334. The settlement and castle of Varasdteplic belonged to the Zagreb Chapter during the Middle Ages. The castle was converted into a baroque castle in the 18th century.
The church of St. Martin was built in the 15th century, probably on the site of an earlier church. The building was rebuilt in Baroque style in 1762. The baroque organ was made by A. Romer from Graz in 1765. The two baroque altars were made in the first half of the 1700s.
The works of the Venetian-born Francesco Robba originally stood in the Cathedral of Zagreb. They were moved to Varasdteplic in 1885
