The Árpád Oak in Hédervár is probably the oldest tree in Hungary. You could say it is the oldest Hungarian one.
According to legend, the marks on the trunk of the tree were left by the rope of the horse of Árpád's horse in 907, when the prince rested here with his army and sat in council in preparation for the battle of Bratislava. Researchers estimate it to be younger, "only" 700-800 years old, which is also a feat that no one in Hungary can compete with. Even among the architectural masterpieces made of stone, there are hardly any that have survived that long.
