The first church in Kamnica, now part of Maribor, was probably built in the 12th century. The church, which was extended in Gothic style in the 14th and 15th centuries, was destroyed by a Turkish attack in the 1500s. The present church was built in the 18th century using the remains of the old church. The building took its present form in the mid-1700s and is largely Baroque, with frescoes by Georg Raf and Anton Lerchinger.
