The idea to build the chapel was conceived by local young people after they returned from the 2005 World Catholic Youth Meeting in Cologne. The chapel was built with the cooperation and support of many people, thanks to the selfless work of local people. The chapel, decorated with works of art created at the "Ferenczi József" art camp in Sarród, was consecrated in October 2007. The chapel, built in honour of St Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and the natural environment, is part of the Way of Mary.
In 2018, a second chapel was built along the Way of Mary, named after Saint George, the patron saint of farmers.
