Set in a park of centuries-old trees, the three-storey castle, with three corner towers, is guarded by two sphinxes. According to the chronicles, Prince Géza donated the Szigetköz to the German knight Héder at the end of the 10th century. The castle of Héder became the centre of the manor that united the surrounding serf villages.
In the early 16th century, the Héderváry family had a Renaissance castle built near the Gothic medieval castle, which had become uncomfortable to live in. The palace was remodelled in the 18th century, adding Baroque decorations and a new floor. At the end of the west wing, the ornately painted chapel was added, spanning two floors. The chapel's jewel is a painting of Mary and baby Jesus.
