The first known document mentioning Himod dates back to 1408. In the Middle Ages Himod and the other settlements in the area (Pusztacsalád, Csapod, Iván) were part of the so-called "Pusztacsalád". "The area of Himod and the village of Povod and Povod belonged to the area of the so-called 'Great Forest'. The old forest area has been considerably reduced in recent centuries.
