The Denkpal fish ladder is basically made up of two different sections. A so-called slotted fish passage connects the water intake to a bypass with a natural-looking bypass channel interrupted by three rest stops.
The main reason for the construction of the intake was to regulate the inter-island surge based on the current water flow of the Danube, according to a plan of operation drawn up by representatives of the various disciplines. Accordingly, the operating water level of the fish ladder also fluctuates within a range of around 150 centimetres.
