"It was not only in his biography and letters that Sulpicius Severus gave an account of the life of his idol and friend Martin. In response to the ecclesiastical criticism of the monk-bishop and his biography, he published around 405 a new account in the form of a Platonic dialogue, entitled Gallus or Dialogues. This dialogue portrays Martin in new and still surprising ways, which will be explored in this lecture."
