Cherry / Cerin on St Martin's Way

Along with Bratislava and Spišské Lázn?, one of the most important St Martin's sites in Slovakia is Cerin near Banská Bystrica. Hopefully, the time is not far off when the settlement will be directly and effectively connected to the European St Martin's Way. This is also the aim of the event that will be organised in the village on 23 September by several organisations and individuals. As part of the programme, a bronze footprint of Saint Martin will be placed at the 700-year-old church in the village, as a symbol of the Way.

The name of Cserény is not unknown to the Hungarian admirers of Saint Martin. The winged altarpiece in Cherény is a treasured treasure of the National Gallery in Budapest. In recent years a replica of the altar, faithful to the original, has been made and is now on display in the sanctuary of the church. As a sign of good relations, in 2016 the relic of Saint Martin from Szombathely also "visited" Cserény.
