.The church of St Martin in Nagytilaj was built in the Árpád period. It was first mentioned in 1288. In the 16th century, during the Ottoman conquest, the village was destroyed.
Its medieval church is described in the 1698 Old Testament as a ruined building outside the village. In 1754, the medieval arches were reinforced, the building was given a roof and a wooden tower was built. At the end of the 19th century, the small church was demolished. Its place is marked by an inscribed cross on the edge of the village. The present church, in the centre of the village, was built in 1882 using stones from the Kemendi castle. Its altarpiece depicts the scene of St. Martin on horseback sharing his cloak with a beggar.
The church frescoes were painted by József Gál, a painter from Szombathely in 1941.
