A small historical town with a rich history, near the Hungarian-Austrian border.
The medieval town core is protected as a historical monument. The town's most significant historical event is the siege of 1532, when a small number of castle defenders held off the Turkish army marching on Vienna. To commemorate the siege, the bells of Kőszeg will ring out again today at 11am.
According to legend, the castle defenders were helped by the heroic determination of St Martin.
One of the glass windows of the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is dedicated to Saint Martin.
A bier decorated with the figure of St. Martin sharing his cloak invites the faithful to donate to the Church of St. Imre.
