The nature trail is located in Dunaszeg, in the Szigetköz, and was built by the municipality of the village around the Morotva lake on the outskirts of the village. The horseshoe-shaped lake was once a bend in the Moson-Danube.
The opening of the former riverbed was filled up, gradually blocked and turned into a backwater, and then slowly the current still lake was formed, where dust and silt are constantly deposited. The remains of dead plants accumulate and the reeds dominate an increasing area of the open water. The lake is surrounded by raffia bushes, white willows and flowers. One of the rarest plant species is creeping celery.
All this makes for a beautiful sight whatever the season. An easy 1.5 km walk around the lake will introduce you to the wildlife of the reed beds, the natural treasures of this landscape, and the tranquillity and beauty of this idyllic landscape. Access from the inter-island road, just before the village there is a sign indicating the way to the lake. It is free to visit.
