Point of interest - Öttevény - Church of St John the Baptist

The church was built in 1789 in Baroque style. At that time, the dean of the village was Count Károly Khun-Héderváry. The fact that the church is mentioned in the 1698 church visitation report suggests an earlier origin.

Over the years, the building has been renovated several times and rebuilt after being damaged by a fire in 1849. In 1934, the "Heroes' Bell" was cast and consecrated, inscribed with the names of the fallen in the great wars. In 1992, the parishioners recast one bell in honour of the Virgin Mary of the Hungarians to replace the two bells that were lost in World War II. On the wall of the sanctuary is the child John the Baptist with his elderly parents, Zacharias and Elisabeth. The side altar is adorned with beautiful Baroque artwork, a painting of the Holy Family and a gilded wooden sculpture of the Evangelists Luke and Mark. Other treasures of the church include the reliquary containing the skull and crossbones of King Saint Lazarus, the image of Saint Anne and the statue of the Mother of Sorrows.
