Point of interest - Bratislava - Marianka Valley (Bratislava, Marianka)

Mariavölgy (Slovak Marianka, German Marient(h)al, Mariathal, Latin Vallis Mariana) is a village in the Malacca district of the Bratislava region in Slovakia, 15 km north of Bratislava, in the south-western valley of the Little Carpathians. Its church and monastery are among its main attractions.

The church was founded in 1377 by King Louis the Great and consecrated in 1380 in honour of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. At the beginning of the 17th century, the church was rebuilt in the Baroque style and the monastery was enlarged. In 1694 it was given a new high altar, the present one dates from 1877. Five of its seven altars were built between 1715 and 1735 in Baroque style. Two of the neo-Gothic altars date from 1877. The Renaissance baptistery dates from the second half of the 17th century, the Baroque pulpit from 1720. The monastery was founded at the same time as the church. It was enlarged in 1593. The stream from the source of the shrine flows through the village.
